Food hunger is a hidden problem that any one of us can experience in times of struggle or financial hardship. With the cost of living increasing faster then the average Australian wage, all it takes is a little unexpected bill or a family emergency and all of a sudden food hunger becomes a problem.

Even Farmers are finding it tough with the current economic climate. Having to compete with cheap overseas food producers is making it harder for Aussie farmers to make ends meet leading to food insecurity.

It happens to victims of domestic violence, refugees, foster carers, the list goes on. It can happen to anyone.

It’s not just the homeless and unemployed that go hungry, in a report brought out by Foodbank in 2017, 15% of Australians have experienced food insecurity in the past year. That’s a staggering statistic that just goes to show how much charity organisations like Foodbank really need our help. You can find the report here.

No one should ever have to worry about whether they have enough food to feed their family

Food is a basic need and it’s not something anyone should have to worry about. For anyone to have to live and deal with food insecurity is just sad. No one should have to go hungry, especially not in Australia.

But it happens and the stats on food hunger taken from Foodbank’s site below are alarming.

The facts on food hunger in Australia:

3.6 mil  people report having experienced food insecurity in the last year
652,000  people receive food relief from Foodbank agencies, every month

Let’s Fight Food Hunger Together

Food Hunger really is a hidden problem because no one ever wants to admit they are struggling to eat, especially if they’re going through unfortunate times in their life. It can happen to anybody experiencing financial difficulties.  We live in a thriving 1st world country with an abundance of everything so it’s easy to overlook the fact that people can go hungry here in Australia.

Thanks to Foodbank and other charities helping to provide food relief and giving hope back to the community. Without these charities, there would be a lot more families struggling to live a normal life. That’s why as a nation we need to get behind charities like Foodbank with all the support and assistance we can give.

How Can I Fight Food Hunger?

There is a lot we can do. We all just need to take a bit of time out of our busy lives to think about the less fortunate or those experiencing food insecurities. By reaching out to hunger relief organisations like Foodbank, you can do your part and help out.

Foodbank is a hunger relief organisation here is Australia that is fighting food hunger. They are a non-for-profit organisation which acts as a pantry to the charities and community groups who feed the hungry.

Foodbank supplies more at least 2600 charities which then allows them to distribute food around the country to help those fighting food hunger. With depots in every state in Australia, allows them to reach as many charities as they can.  They need our help with donating more food as the demand outweighs the supply of food to these charities.

You can visit to Foodbank page to find out how you can help and do you bit to help out your fellow Australian in need.

Please show your support and donate to our cause and let’s all do our bit.

We will be holding events and giveaways in the month of April and anyone who donates will go into the draw to win awesome prizes, like cool wall art, herb kits or gnarly t-shirts.
